AboutTheBoards

Organization

The message boards themselves are composed of two sections each with three forums. The top section is “The Bad Candy Experience” containing the forums Breaking Bad Candy News, Your Own Experiences and Thoughts About the Site. This is generally the message board wasteland as it is one of the oldest sections of the message board yet the total post count is less than the lowest and newest forum added in the second section. Typically new “real” posters (that is, new users who are not an automated bot or Kevin73) are drawn to this area to give their two cents on candy they have tried or give an attempt at a candy review emulating the Website itself. If a new user posts more than once, they normally will migrate towards the second section of the message board.

The second section, “Other Experiences Not Related to Candy” includes the forums Random Crap, Pictures Forum and Nerd Forum. The most recently added forums to the site are the Pictures Forum due to a random upsurge in camera whoring at least indirectly if not flat out directly related to user Noir followed closely by the addition of the Nerd Forum related to a user request from Cadbury. The heavy weight constituting the bulk of all posts is the Random Crap forum.

The most users online was 60 on 08/11/2006, and most of those logged-in users were logged in because they were in the process of being hacked.

Members and Use

Users and guests have basic message board rights and can post to topics in forums. With the exception of moderators and administrators however, users do not have the option to edit their posts. This has led to many a frustrated post or a double post from users in attempts to correct mistakes or complain about having no editing rights to get their posts ‘perfect’. Administration feels that having no editing ability has led to more humor than not and as such has not lifted the editing restriction.

Bad Candy Mark I was going to enable the edit feature, but a fellow webmaster pointed out (not to me specifically, but in general) that it's a lot easier and more entertaining to hold people accountable for the stupid things they say when they can't go back and delete them. Just use your preview button. Trust me when I tell you it'll be worth it. If the old forums are any indication of things to come, I give it one week before someone posts something so scathingly stupid it'll make your goddamn head explode, and I for one don't mind sacrificing a few messed up links for that kind of art. There are over 900 registered users to the message boards–mainly living in North America, and usually only finding the time to post during North American business hours (8-6, M-F; while they are bored at work or at school). However, many users are either non-active or lurkers. The main body of active posters is about 25-30 and generally post in the Random Crap section. The moderators have been varied over the years but have been whittled down to three: Dancin’ Dude, SkaPixy and Viciousbubble.
